When I first started using essential oils I was quite taken aback by all the different brands and grades of essential oils they were available online, at the chemist, in beauty stores and even in petrol station. So, I wanted to first touch briefly on the different grades of essential oils you might come across when starting your oily journey as this is such an important variable that will decide upon they way you can use them and the level of benefits you will receive from your oils.
The different grades of Essential oils:
Synthetic – they have chemicals inside. They’re the oils most readily found in shops but you definitely can’t take these internally. They will actually do damage if you do.
Food Grade – can be used in food (herbal teas, raw chocolate, many drinks)
Therapeutic Grade – very high quality oil that great care is taken over
CPTG - the highest grade of essential oil, which is what dōTERRA essential oils are.
dōTERRA wanted to create oils that were pure, safe and effective and this was the reason they started the company.
dōTERRA’s essential oils are sourced from all around the world. They are grown indigenously, which means they have their natural soil, their natural climate. This is really important since what we actually have with an essential oil is the plant’s immune system which protects the plant from pathogens – viruses, bacteria, fungus.
We have very similar cells to plant cells, so when we use the essential oils, we can use those properties for our body to heal. So if the plant is grown in its natural habitat, it’s stronger. Therefore its immune system is stronger, so the oil is more potent, which means that it works more effectively
dōTERRA also have 90% exclusivity with the farmers they work with, which means they can ensure the plants are handled correctly throughout the process, with no chemicals used, often distilling the plants on site, so no potency is lost in transporting them. This ensures doTERRA essential oils are constantly pure and safe
dōTERRA takes the testing of the oils incredibly seriously as there is no official body that regulates the quality and purity of essential oils. To overcome this, dōTERRA have created their own standardisation called CPTG (Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade), which shows that their oils are therapeutic grade. They have 5 tests that they do 3 times, and then the oils are independently tested to make sure that nothing else is in the essential oil and to guarantee that each drop is 100% pure. The independent body that tests dōTERRA’s oils is called the Aromatic Plant Research Center. In fact dōTERRA are so passionate about transparency that we can actually look up the exact test results for each batch, Simply go to this site: Source to You.
Type in the batch number on the bottle and voila! There before your own eyes you can see for yourself that they are 100% Natural. Nothing is added to them and nothing is taken away from them.
I mentioned earlier that the plants are from their natural habitat, which is very important for the purity of the oils produced but is also very important for this as many of these countries are developing countries. doTERRA is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of farmers, harvesters, and distillers who contribute to doTERRA’s oil production and the communities that surround them.
With over 100 essential oils in its product line, doTERRA sources its oils from over 40 countries—more than half of which could be considered developing countries. To ensure that small scale farmers and harvesters in disadvantaged areas are treated ethically, doTERRA has introduced an initiative called Co-Impact Sourcing.
Co-Impact Sourcing is an initiative that seeks to develop long-term, mutually beneficial supplier partnerships while creating sustainable jobs and providing reliable income in underdeveloped areas. doTERRA is committed to the ethical treatment of its suppliers by providing on-time payments at fair prices. Growers and harvesters are encouraged to form cooperative groups to share collective benefits and bargaining power while improving skills and capacity.
Additionally, the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation® helps support development projects in sourcing communities. Projects include schools, health clinics, improved infrastructure and clean water systems. When I chose to use doTERRA essential oils for myself and my family I was in no doubt that I was receiving the highest quality oils on the market and was so utterly blown away with the transaracy that this company was offering me in regards to the purity of the oils. But it was the ethics and foundations of doTERRA that really set it in stone for me, that these were the oils and the brand that i wanted the have by my side from the start and all the way throughout my oily journey. doTERRA was the brand i choose to invest in that so quickly became a lifestyle.
